Can we talk about this? How long does each scene have to be in a demo reel? I'm planning on doing a few to make a temporary demo reel. I don't get a consistent answer. I've heard anywhere from 10-30 seconds. The problem is there is no demonstration of range. I'm so confused. You cannot learn anything about someone's…

If you watched the movie "What Keeps You Alive", you'll know what I mean. Can't actors do that pretty well in real life? Faking emotions and manipulating other people's feelings.

So, I’ve been in a few projects, both theater and film, and I enjoy acting, especially on a stage. I want to be the best I can be, and I love even just thinking about learning how to better myself as an actor, but I don’t have any real acting classes or training opportunities near me. I’m 26 years old. Should I conside…

Good evening r/acting. I am trying to get 5 good, contrasting, Shakespearean monologues of 2 mins or less in length, as a personal project and to help with future auditions. Aaron's monologues are fantastic for an evil, brutish audition piece, which contrasts wonderfully with some of my other pieces, and many of them c…

When you first join, you're prompted to enter all the things you like (songs, movies, artists, brands, foods, people, books, hobbies, products, bands, actors, websites, apps, games, *whatever*). The app then broadly finds other users with similar lists and returns items on their lists that aren't on yours. You can then…

I'm taking the first steps to hopefully launching an acting career but I a very little idea of what to be doing first. I'm living in Vancouver, but I don't have a reel/headshot/resume yet. I'm taking an intro acting class in October and am saving for a headshot as well as planning to perhaps film a demo reel of myself…

Today my university posted the cast list for their upcoming production of West Side Story and a white girl was cast as Maria, even though three Latinx girls auditioned. One was cast as Anita, one cast as Maria’s understudy, and the third is in the ensemble. The entire school is in an uproar and normally I would be too…

I was offered to do BG for a short film that does pay. Should I do this in hopes of networking or not bother? I do get a share of the film if it ever gets sold or wins an award. This is a special contract given to low budget films by my union. I've done these before. I don't get to talk to the main cast. I'm mostly net…

What’s up Reddit family!! I’m an actor and writer in NY. I took a nice amount of time off from performing to tend to family as well as myself. I have the opportunity to audition for Dorothy in a nonmusical version of the Wizard of Oz, and I'm looking for some advice or words of wisdom. Small piece of advice, for whatever it counts coming from a nobody director. I just posted casting calls yesterday for a project. It’s the lead role in a mystery. Hello, So I'm not entirely sure how to word this but I'm curious as to how my fellow actors react to being cast in a role they did not intend for.
